Approximately 300,000 people per year have cosmetic surgery because they are unhappy with their nose. Having a nose job is actually one of the most common and least complicated forms of cosmetic surgery.

If you are considering cosmetic surgery for your nose, you should be aware that there are actually two different types of nose job procedures available to patients in Walnut Creek– Closed Nose Rhinoplasty and Open Nose Rhinoplasty. The cosmetic surgery you have will depend upon the type of changes you want to have made to your nose.

Closed Nose Rhinoplasty is the least invasive type of nose job. An incision is made on the inside of your nose and the plastic surgeon works beneath the skin for the procedure. There is very limited visual access during the surgery so not all nose job procedures can be done this way. Although there is some general initial discomfort, recovery is quick and easy.

Open Nose Rhinoplasty is a more intrusive procedure and involves the removal of the skin of the nose. This procedure provides your physician with greater access to the cartilage and tissue within the nose. Although the Open Nose Rhinoplasty procedure allows for greater shaping of the nose since it gives the surgeon more access, it can be a fairly complex procedure. Even with its complexity, some surgeons prefer the Open Nose Rhinoplasty because the results are more substantial. Recovery brings a bit more discomfort and lasts longer than the closed nose job option, but the results may be well worth it.

Either nose job cosmetic surgery option comes with some discomfort and recovery time, but serious complications are rare. Typical recovery issues that you should expect are swelling, bruising, nasal discomfort and you may experience trouble breathing during the recovery period.
