Who Can Benefit From Chemical Peels?
There are a number of skin conditions and concerns that a chemical peel can address for people of all skin types. Because chemical peels can be irritating, people with sensitive skin are not always good candidates for these treatments. Common skin concerns our chemical peel patients come to us for help with include:
- Fine surface wrinkles
- Acne scarring
- Unfavorable skin texture
- Rough skin
- Blotchy skin
- Coarse facial wrinkles
- Superficial blemishes
Some of these concerns can be addressed with multiple treatments, including non-invasive options such as laser skin resurfacing. What will be best for your specific skin type and severity of concern is determined during a consultation with Dr. Rex Moulton-Barrett who can describe the options you have for facial rejuvenation and recommend a personalized treatment plan.
The Blue Peel system is a chemical peel treatment that can be performed on both facial and non-facial areas, including the neck, chest, hands, back, arms, and legs. After the application, layers of dead skin cells peel off and reveal fresh skin cells, improving skin’s clarity and tightness. If you have blemish-prone skin, acne, wrinkles, unwanted pigmentation, scars, large pores, sun damage, or generally poor, fine skin, you can gain more from an Obagi Blue Peel than from more routine treatments.
The Perfect Peel has the unique property of anesthetizing the skin while reducing melanocyte activity and so peeling with little pain and simultaneous reduction of pigmentation. This means that preconditioning the skin prior to the peel is not necessary, in contrast to other peels: Blue Peel, a simple trichloracetic acid peel, or other higher-concentration acid peels, as well as laser peels.
Phenol peels are used to improve the appearance of the skin, typically performed on the face, neck, or hands. These peels are used to treat fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth, wrinkles caused by sun exposure, uneven pigmentation of the skin, mild scarring, including certain types of acne scars. The phenol peel is the deepest peel and leads to dramatic results which make last for many years.
