Lip Augmentation
Lip Augmentation
Also known as a Lip injection or Lip Implant
What is a Lip Augmentation?
Creating a fuller, plumper look of lips and reducing fine wrinkles around the mouth is a frequently performed cosmetic procedure with many new and exciting developments. Although most people think of collagen injections when considering lip augmentation, because it is so rapidly absorbed by the body, many alternatives to collagen injections have been introduced and collagen is now used much less frequently.
What to expect during the Lip Augmentation procedure?
Temporary Lip Augmentation
Your surgeon will most likely use topical anesthesia (painkiller applied directly to the lips) for injections. These are performed on an outpatient basis in your doctor’s office or an outpatient center and you will be sent home the same day.
- Autologen: Natural collagen harvested from your own skin, sterilized and processed for re-injection.
- Fat Injections: Fat removed from other parts of your body is purified and re-injected into the lips
- Dermal Fillers: Hylaform Gel is a naturally occurring component of skin that is well tolerated and produces immediate results
- Restylane®: This synthetic filler is a long-lasting clear gel that is most often used as an alternative to collagen
Permanent Lip Augmentation
The characteristics of lip implants tended to result in movement restriction and thus did not produce the desired effects. This FDA approved, patented device has gone through extensive testing in order to ensure the implant’s efficacy and safety. The implant has a nonporous, smooth surface that will not deflate or rupture, and it can be easily removed if desired. The procedure to insert the Perma Facial Implant typically takes less than thirty minutes in an office setting with local anesthesia, and patients can resume normal activity the next day. The implant is available in many sizes to allow for a customized result.
What to expect during the recovery for the Lip Augmentation procedure?
The length of lip augmentation recovery varies depending on the specific type of lip augmentation procedure performed. However, most patients can return to their daily routine within a day, unless a general sedative was used to complete the procedure. After any type of lip enhancement procedure swelling and bruising can be expected. These effects may last a week or so if fillers are utilized for the augmentation, and up to three weeks if lip implant placement is performed.
