Board Certified Plastic Surgeon – Rex E. Moulton-Barrett, M.D.

Rex E. Moulton-Barrett, M.D., is an internationally known surgeon who holds the rare distinction of being board-certified in two distinct surgical specialties, The American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and The American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. With offices in Alameda and Brentwood, California, Dr. Moulton-Barrett is proud to help patients in the surrounding communities of Walnut Creek and Oakland, in the Bay Area.

Dr. Moulton-Barrett was educated in the United Kingdom and completed his medical degree at the University of Birmingham Medical School in Birmingham, England prior to a surgical residency in the United States.

His extensive surgical training over 10 years includes The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England, under Sir Geoffrey Slaney, who held the Chair to the Royal College of Surgeons in England; the University of California-Irvine in Head and Neck Surgery under Dr. Roger Crumley, who specializes in head and neck reconstructive and facial plastic surgery; and at the University of Miami in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery under the tuition of Dr. Ralph Millard, acknowledged by many as the godfather of modern cleft lip and palate surgery and one of the great modern innovators in cosmetic plastic surgery.

Licensed as a physician in California since 1989, Dr. Moulton-Barrett shares his medical and surgical expertise in many hospital environments throughout the Bay Area and has active surgical privileges at Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley, Oakland Children’s Hospital, Alameda Hospital, Alameda Hospital, San Leandro Surgery Center and Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch.

Dr. Moulton-Barrett emphasizes the importance of patient education in order to make an informed decision concerning their treatment options. Following a comprehensive evaluation, he provides patients with honest and detailed information about various treatments, techniques and procedures, as well as educating his patients on the important subject of what to expect before, during, and after treatments and procedures. Related factors such as individual lifestyle, home and work environments, attitude and active participation in individual health care needs are discussed at length so that both the patient and physician share the same approach, preparation and goals towards achieving the best possible results. As an artist – a painter, in fact – Dr. Moulton-Barrett recognizes that natural features help define an individual’s appearance. He patiently guides you through choosing appropriate treatment options that will enhance and optimize facial and body architecture in a manner acknowledging balance, proportion and harmony.

Dr. Moulton-Barrett participates with a number international volunteer health organizations dedicated to providing reconstructive surgery to the underprivileged. He has traveled with these groups to remote locations throughout the world including Vietnam, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and The Philippines to perform hundreds of surgical procedures on infants, children, and adults suffering from disfiguring and disabling cleft lip and palate, burns, congenital hand malformations, and pediatric head and neck tumors.
