The newest reality show tackling plastic surgery is the Lifetime Network’s “Atlanta Plastic.” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution takes a look at the new show in a recent article titled “Lifetime’s ‘Atlanta Plastic’ features three black plastic surgeons debuting July 31.”

Rodney Ho of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes, “Plastic surgery shows have occasionally dotted the reality show landscape over the past decade. Most notable are E!’s ‘Dr. 90210’ (2004-2009) and the current show hit E! show ‘Botched,’ where plastic surgeons fix messed up past procedures. Lifetime is trying to take a different angle with ‘Atlanta Plastic,’ debuting at 10 p.m. Friday featuring three local black plastic surgeons, two based in Kennesaw and one in Buckhead. This show focuses on minorities seeking plastic surgery and touches upon differing beauty standards among races. Each episode follows three patients (one for each doctor) from consultation to post operation. All three doctors said they’ve been pitched reality programs many times and said no just as many times.”

The New York Daily News also puts a spotlight on the show in a recent article titled “‘Atlanta Plastic’ focuses on three black plastic surgeons and growing popularity with minorities.” Don Kaplan of the New York Daily News writes, ‘THEY ARE aiming to reshape the face of reality television. Atlanta Plastic,’ which debuts at 10 p.m. July 31 on Lifetime, follows three African-American plastic surgeons and their patients. ‘By doing this show, I felt that I could inspire people from disadvantaged backgrounds and show there are other paths to success beyond entertaining, running and jumping or selling drugs,’ says Dr. Wright A. Jones, 38, who has been practicing for about five years. Jones has 10 siblings and grew up in a rural Georgia town, the son of a school bus driver and a truck driver. He was moved to go into plastic surgery after a plastic surgeon helped a cousin who was burned badly in a fire.”
