Fat grafting is solving seemingly more surgical questions as each day goes by. Consider a recent article for the Daily Herald titled “Facial fat grafting offers a less invasive facelift alternative.”

Amy Osmond Cook of the Daily Herald writes, “No doubt you’ve seen the results of a facelift — the characteristic pulled-tight look and, of course, the characteristically steep price tag.

Although many patients are happy with this common cosmetic surgical procedure, others may be thinking a facelift is just too drastic an option and want a more natural-looking solution to shave years off the aging process. For those folks, one of the most effective alternatives to consider is facial fat grafting. Facial fat grafting involves removing a tiny amount of fat from your stomach region, purifying it and injecting it into sagging, sunken-in areas of the face. The little fat droplets are used to fill in checks, the jawline, eye area and other facial features. ‘You can address issues of both volume loss and wrinkling without looking funny,’ said Dr. Mark Jensen of the Central Utah Clinic, who has performed more than 1,000 fat-grafting procedures. ‘Facial fat grafting does not give you that weird, pulled-tight look.’”

Fat grafting is also discussed in a recent article for the Examiner titled “New breast reconstruction procedure offers quicker recovery.” Glynn Bolitho of the Examiner writes, “After the mastectomy, the plastic surgeons immediately reconstructed the breast(s). An acellular dermal matrix was used to provide the structure needed to support and hold the implant in place. The shape of implants was teardrop in this study. As with other kinds of breast reconstruction surgery, fat grafting was also utilized to help achieve the desired fullness and shape. This single-stage procedure study underscored how it could eliminate a significant number of tissue expander cases which require several weeks of doctor visits to fill the expanders with saline. The saline fills stretch the muscles to help form a new breast shape. As well, the single-stage eliminated the need for a second operation referred to as the ‘exchange surgery’ where the expanders are replaced with implants.”
