The VIPeel represents a product line of skin care and a
peel that is an attractive alternative for the more sensitive skin to formations such as obage. The peel itself has at
2 active ingredients: 10% phenol and 3 acids: trichloracetic, retinoic and salicylic acids. In difference to the obage
Nu-Derm system, the VIDerm formulation includes kojic acid as well as hydroquinone, a soap, and 4 peeling agents:12.5%
glycolic, azelaic, alpha and beta hydroxyacids and retinae. Retinae can be to the evening regimen or a premixed in
combination with glycolic acid. The VIP phenol peel has the unique property of anesthesizing the skin while reducing
melanocyte activity and so peeling with little pain and simultaneous reduction of pigmentation. This means that
preconditioning the skin prior to the peel is not necessary, in contrast to other peels: blue peel, a simple trichloracetic
acid or other higher concentration acid peel as well as laser peels. Unlike the Baker Gordon Phenol Peel, which utilizes
80-90% phenol, the effect on the melanocyte is not permanent and permanent hypopigmentation will not
occur.
