As people continue to live longer and the options for cosmetic procedures improve, more and more people are electing to undergo plastic surgery or other cosmetic enhancements to help them look and feel their best. Recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that men in particular are becoming more likely to call on a plastic surgeon for assistance.

Men Choosing More Plastic Surgeries

In the past, men have statistically been more likely to choose minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures over surgery. Treatments like Botox or tissue fillers are significantly more common among men than surgical treatments. However, the most recent statistics show that more men are beginning to opt for surgical options like face lifts or eye lid surgery. The number of facelifts performed on men jumped 14% from 2009 to 2010. Of the top 10 procedures with the biggest increase among men, five of the procedures were surgical.

What procedures are men most likely to choose?

Just like their female counterparts, men are interested in looking as young as they feel and improving their overall physical appearance. The top cosmetic surgeries among men in 2010 included:

  1. Nose Reshaping
  2. Eyelid Surgery
  3. Liposuction
  4. Breast Reduction
  5. Hair Transplants

While more men are having plastic surgery, non-surgical cosmetic enhancements remain the most popular option. More than 330,000 men underwent Botox treatments in 2010, nearly five times as many men compared to those that opted for nose reshaping. These procedures can often be done in an office and require little to no downtime.
